Philanthropy

Philanthropy is the desire to help humanity.

Since 2000, tax-deductible donations to RRCNA have totaled:

• More than $450,000 from more than 4,000 individual members and friends

• Nine corporations and foundations together have given gifts that total more than $1,200,000

These gifts have funded:

• 239 scholarships that helped to:
  • Train 95 Reading Recovery teacher leaders in 33 states and 2 provinces in Canada
  • Provide professional development for 92 Reading Recovery professionals who then shared the "best practices" in literacy that they learned with teachers and administrators in 31 states, 2 Canadian provinces, United Kingdom, St. Maarten, and overseas in the Department of Defense Schools.
     
• Advocacy initiatives at the federal and local level to sustain the integrity of Reading Recovery,
• Professional development materials, books and learning tools to use with students,
• Electronic and print resources such as CELI (Center for Early Literacy Information).

What is the impact of this generosity?

Hundreds of thousands of struggling first-graders have become independent readers and writers who are able to benefit from good classroom teaching and can therefore learn to be successful in school and life.
