Walter Zollman and Jan Gaffney share a special father-daughter
moment.
The friends of Jan Gaffney also expressed their respect and caring
when her father, Walter Zollmann, died last year. Members of Ranchos
to show their sympathy for her loss by remembering Mr. Zelman in a
tribute that will continue is memory beyond his lifetime. Harriet
Reynolds, a teacher from Iowa, made a contribution because, she
said, I can’t think of any better way to show my respect and
appreciation for Jan. I know she cares deeply about Reading
Recovery, and I wanted my gift to promote a cause that is important
to both of us and that would honor her father.” According to Jan,
her father believed that how you treat others and what you do with
your talents re the important measures of ones life. He placed a
high value on the education of his own children and truly
appreciated the difference that Reading Recovery makes in children’s
lives. With his wife, Helen, he attended several the graduation
ceremonies of Reading Recovery teachers, teacher leaders, and
university trainers at the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign and was tickled by their stories of teaching and
training.“ As a frugal man, my dad would be grateful that gifts were
made in his name that would benefit children’s literacy rather than
wilt in a vase. I am my father’s daughter,” said Jan. |
