Trika Smith-Burke Birthday Celebration
 Colleagues
and friends of Trika Smith-Burke celebrated her birthday by
contributing to an honorary gift program created to benefit the
Reading Recovery Fund. Blowing out a candle on a cake just
offered by the server, Smith-Burke (standing) was joined by
(seated right) Mary Anne Doyle , University of Connecticut; Maribeth Schmitt,
Purdue University; and Mary Anne’s brother, Mark
Doyle (seated left).Friends of Trika Smith-Burke honored her on a recent birthday by
making donations to the Reading Recovery Fund. Teachers, trainers,
friends, and RRCNA staff contributed approximately$1,300 to Reading
Recovery, which means a great deal to her. By giving a gift to help
ensure access to Reading Recovery for very child who needs its
support, her colleagues let her know they were thinking about her on
her special day and gave a gift that keeps on giving. “I am at the
stage in life where I don’t need more knickknacks for my bookshelf.
Reading Recovery is very important to me and I am deeply grateful to
my friends and professional colleagues for giving me a truly
meaningful gift,” said Trika.
